Indiana Arts, Connecting you to a world of art
Buchanan, Matthew
Oil Painter (View Portfolio)
Columbia City, IN 46725
I paint pictures with a foundation in visual impression as done by painters such as Sargent, Whistler and Velazquez. I pursue this impression whether it be a painting from nature, portrait or an imaginary, figurative work. The selected impression is found by relating the visual experience with the spiritual relationship with the subject matter. My goal is to have experienced, related and captured the wholeness of the experience before and with me.
I have been trained at Atelier Indiana. An Atelier is an oral transmission of the art of picture making which started during the Renaissance. Atelier Indiana has its linage from the 19th century French Schools through the early 20th century Boston School of painters. I have been instructed in direct, in-direct and alla prima painting and I have been taught how to achieve and capture impressionist color and light. Shows Attended: 2004 Three Rivers Invitational
