As an artist and musician, I draw upon the interconnected rhythms of the natural world and human culture to engage and communicate. It is my hope that my work inspires harmony - an interactive metaphor of being in tune with oneself, our neighbors and the world we all share - through awareness, listening, hearing, understanding, and respect.

As a child I never questioned what I would be when I grew up. When asked, I would reply, “An artist of course!” I have been in love with art since I was a small child and have always been known by friends and family as the “artistic” one. I have always had a knack for figuring out how to take an idea and make it a reality. I can work in just about any medium. I tend to primarily work as a painter with acrylic and watercolor. I love the fast drying quality of these paints because I tend to work very quickly. I am open to just about any type (more)

While I have many creative interests, my current artistic experiments involve the use of local clay and ancient technologies to produce a working kiln/foundry. The goal is to achieve internal temperatures of nearly 2000 degrees, which should be suitable for melting most metals and firing most clays. In addition, I have been sampling local clays for sculpturing purposes, carving in wood and stone (current projects include a fireplace mantle from wood and a fountain from limestone), and the processing of natural pigments for paints and dyes. I paint non-representational paintings of medium size and some small landscapes. I am an expressionist and derive much inspiation from several sources: nature, my background in Latin America, expressionist painters of the twentieth century, and my own intuition. I am seriously interested in the art of painting and pay a great deal of attention to the underlying formal order of my work. My paintings contain a lot of color, both motion and emotion, and I believe in the direct expression through the elements and principles of art. I (more)

I am an interactive storyteller. Most of my performances are presented in the first-person voice and appropriate period attire. As JACK'S MAMA, I dress as a pioneer mountain woman and tell tales from the oral tradition of the southern Appalachians. Most are humorous. Since my story collection for JACK'S MAMA includes approximately 50 stories, this program is adaptable for all ages. For ABIGAIL GRAY: LIVING UNDER THE DRINKING GOURD, I assume the role of a southeastern Indiana abolitionist and station mistress on the Underground Railroad. My (more)
