As Marc Chagall once said, "I work in whatever medium likes me at the moment." I have worked in oil painting, ceramics, fused glass, and lately, the exciting new medium of Precious Metal Clay. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is pulverized silver, an organic binder, and water, which can be formed and manipulated like ceramic clay. Once fired in a kiln the binders burn away and the silver particles fuse together. The resulting object is .999 FINE silver. I have been combining PMC with fused dichroic glass or ceramics to make one of a kind jewelry (more)

Loose, organic and natural. I am mostly attracted to form and shape. I see patterns in life whether it is a nude body or a fallen tree. Sometimes new images come together to tell a story.

I paint landscapes in oil and acrylic which are more generalized than realistic, often using techniques such as applying paint with a brayer or in a collage fashion, from imagination rather than from life. While my own paintings are loose, I enjoy all different styles of art and the way other artists interpret their world. My favorite artists would include Winslow Homer, Ingres, Sargent and numerous American Impressionists such as Hassam, Chase and Cassatt.

I especially love to work with natural gemstones and vintage beads to create beautiful body adornments. I have also worked with African trade beads, pearls, shell, glass (French, Czech, Italian, Indian, Chinese, etc.), wood, bone, horn, clay, sterling, leather, and more. Sometimes I buy a pendant and right away I can visualize the beads to use and it just flows together. Designing and making jewelry is very relaxing and satisfying for me, I would rather play with my beads than do most anything else.

I mix my photography, paintings, drawings and digital images together to create the majority of my work. My strongest images are from personal life and are often self portraits or involve people. Areas of creative interest for me are female figures, human frailty and religious images. I enjoy incorporating ideas from literature and personal experience.

My full time job is teaching art to individuals with developmental disabilities at L.I.F.E. Adult Day Academy. My students at the academy live with disabilities such as mental retardation, downs syndrome and traumatic brain injuries. They are very creative and affectionate and I love them as my own family. In addition to teaching at the academy, I teach an introductory drawing class at Indiana University – Purdue University, Fort Wayne on Saturdays. I have a strong bond with my students, who inspire me and feed me creatively. I’ve taught at (more)

As a potter, I am constantly exploring form and surface relationships. Much of my current work is left partially unglazed to reveal the rough texture and warm color of the bare clay.

Lula Becraft is a contemporary artist that currently resides in Indiana with her husband. After moving to the Midwest from Oregon in her youth, she discovered her creativity and decided to attend art school. After receiving her degree, she focused on raising her two sons while developing her art. The first piece she sold was an oil painting of a kitten. Lula has since worked as an assistant, creating art for the Circus City Hall of Fame in Indiana and various other commercial art projects as well.
Her love for the beauty of nature became (more)

My work reflects the love of Jesus Christ. I use acrylic and additional media to create unique paintings with dimension and depth. Some of my work will encorporate the lighting in a particular room and angle, so depending on where you stand and the lighting, the piece will look unique to you.

Everybody that knows me will tell you that I have been drawing and painting my whole life. Teaching myself the traditional skills of drawing from life, figure studies, portraits and painting with oil or acrylic on canvas and other media served to propel me forward to experiment with new techniques in watercolor, pastels and even airbrush. All of these illustrative skills prepared me for a future in graphic design & illustration.

I created self-portraits of people of color for about 5 years beginning with taking photos of my family and applying on Bristol drawing paper. I begun watercolor painting techniques of still-life; I create real-life self-portraits of myself and family using oil pastels and pencils. Most of my work is freelance and currently working part-time. Ten years of experience and expanding in other media such as photography, calligraphy, charcoal, and painting. Display of my work will come soon.

I paint in oils and lean toward abstract expressionism in style with the feel of landscapes and/or gardens, and recently have begun making mixed media collages. I began my art adventure as a photographer and have done a form of photography I call "light paintings" -- these are cibachrome photograms which are entirely darkroom manipulation of sensitized paper. I also have been experimenting with digital photography and computer manipulation of images.
In addition to visual arts, I have published works of fiction including short stories (more)

I paint non-representational paintings of medium size and some small landscapes. I am an expressionist and derive much inspiation from several sources: nature, my background in Latin America, expressionist painters of the twentieth century, and my own intuition. I am seriously interested in the art of painting and pay a great deal of attention to the underlying formal order of my work. My paintings contain a lot of color, both motion and emotion, and I believe in the direct expression through the elements and principles of art. I (more)

I like photography for what it is; an ever changing and evolving art form, and one that has literally moved out of the ‘Dark Room” in to the light of day. Even though I enjoyed working in the darkroom I now prefer the digital process, and have sold most of my darkroom equipment. The digital process now provides the same tools (in a different form) that were available in the traditional darkroom (dodging, burning, toning, etc.) without the smell and lethal chemicals (to the environment and the photographer); and no more stained fingers.
