The City has been providing a mix of arts programming and funding for artists and arts organizations for over two decades. Through its award-winning Parks & Recreation Department, the City offers arts classes, sponsors free performances at a variety of City venues, and in December of 2005, assumed ownership of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, although a private non-profit organization manages and programs the venue. The City’s Community Arts Commission (BCAC), established in 1983, awards grants semi-annually to individuals and organizations for arts programming, sponsors a biennial postcard competition for artists and commissions public art through the City’s Percent for the Arts program. The City also presents exhibitions. |

The City of Crown Point is excited about its 4th year of 4th Friday Arts, the only night-time art walk in the in Lake County. This project kicked off on the 4th Friday of January 2008 as a one-of-the-kind nucleus for NWI.
4th Friday Arts is being developed and promoted by the City of Crown Point, South Shore Arts and the downtown business community to bring people to the historical and cultural center of the city, as well as to showcase local talent. We are excited to host the event every 4th Friday of the month, except if it falls on a national holiday.
The geographical area will encompass the historical downtown district of Crown Point and will include restaurants, cultural and educational venues and businesses interested in a re-energized, pedestrian-friendly downtown Crown Point. 4th Friday Arts is committed to working with artists and venues that want to participate on a rotating monthly basis. Restaurants offer $5 sampling menu options throughout the downtown area. |
