During the weekend of December 1-2, 2006, Bloomington hosts an exciting new series of events—The Art of Mental Health—that highlights the dynamic relationship between the arts and mental health. A co-project of the Center for Behavioral Health and Mental Health America* of Monroe County (a United Way agency), The Art of Mental Health includes a free community dance on Friday, Dec 1, featuring The NorTones, an afternoon of free workshops on Saturday, an exhibit of art created by clients of the Center for Behavioral Health, and an evening concert at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, featuring Carrie Newcomer and Malcolm Dalglish. With these events, we hope to share and celebrate the connections between emotional well-being and creativity, inform people about the services in our community, and reduce the stigma and fear surrounding those with mental and emotional challenges.
