Dr. Charles Smith, Folk Artist-Sculptor, founder of The African American Heritage Museum and Black Veteren's Archives, is exhibiting his art at Indiana University Northwest. Dr. Smith's approach to his creating art is simple and very direct. His manner of cutting directly to what he believes to be the truth allows us to see in his works a brand of objectivity that is rare today. Dr. Smith has been recognized by the Art Institute of Chicago, art galleries and collectors in Chicago, Texas, Louisiana, and the art collection of Former President Bill Clinton. The Kohler Foundation purchased a considerable amount of his works several years ago. The Foundation's goal is to preserve and exhibit significant works of Outsider Art. The Smithsonian Institute and The Houston Art Institute has contacted The Kohler Foundation expressing an interest in exhibiting Dr. Smith's works. Two other artists are also exhibiting, Charles Gillam, Sr. Master Carver, Artist, Sculptor from New Orleans.
