Waters-Whitesell, Lynette
painter by passion, graphic designer by profession (View Portfolio) 1016 West Cleveland St.
Hartford City, IN 47348
I embrace color. I enjoy challenging society's notions of “sad” colors and “happy” subject matter. I crave strong hues, heavy pigments, screaming color. I use a layering method, which results in an interesting interplay of contrasting colors and guides the eye of the viewer through a playground of paint. My goal is to achieve sharp, bold images with skewed and secretive interpretations underlined within the plane - every inch of canvas a cacophony of colors.
Lynette K. Waters-Whitesell is a painter exploring in mixed media. Lynette begins her under-paintings on the computer with Photoshop manipulations which she prints to digital transfers and adheres to either panel or canvas. Once the transfer is adhered, she incorporates layers of acrylic paint, and occasionally text and/or ephemera. Born in 1973, Lynette was raised and continues to reside in Hartford City, Indiana with her husband and three children. Lyn, as she’s more casually known, graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelors of Fine Art degree. For nearly fifteen years, Lyn has worked as a graphic designer/illustrator and art director in the East Central Indiana area. She’s won numerous visual communication awards locally, regionally and nationally. Lyn has also taught at the collegiate level, participated in the Governor’s Arts Awards in 2009, and is on the board of directors at Arts Place in Portland, Indiana. Lynette has also been awarded two Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grants: one in 2006 and one in 2010. Since 1998, Lyn’s work has been displayed in numerous art shows and galleries throughout the Midwest. Lyn actively participates in juried exhibitions and gallery shows.
