Description
My shows are intense, very funny, compelling and deal with themes best suited for grown ups. I combine dance, mime, personal story, sound and theatre to create solo, improvisational movement theater. My work is usually improvised or based on a structured improvisation. Themes I have addressed solo improvisational shows have included "coping with dying parents" and "coming of age".
Background
Nell Weatherwax holds a BA in Movement Theatre (Individualized Major Program) and an MA in Counseling, both from Indiana University. As a student, teacher and performer of movement theater for most of her adult life, she draws from a variety of disciplines to teach and perform. As a mime and performance artist, Nell has performed and taught in schools throughout Indiana with support from the Indiana Arts Commission. In 1992 she co-founded What If... InterAction Theater, an improv-based educational theater company still serving at-risk youth and adults in Indiana. Most recently she performed her solo improv show for the Bloomington Playwright's Project Dark Alley Series. Some of Nell's influences include: Sigfrido Aguilar of Estudio Busqueda de Pantomima Teatro, Guanajuato, Mexico Nina Wise - performance artist and author of A Big, New, Happy, Unusual Life Bay Area Theatre Sports Olivia Corson, creator of Body Tales
